What is Blackboard?
Blackboard is a classroom-based software program that provides the instructor and student with a user-friendly environment that allows for a number of different learning experiences and environments. The features includes discussion forums, in-class mail, student presentations, online testing, posting of assignments and lectures, Internet relay chat, online grade book and many other features that an instructor may make available to the student. Not every course will have all of the same features. Blackboard has been a leader in education course management software since 1995 and is the most widely used tool for providing online education.

Blackboard provides a way for students, faculty, and staff to keep up with campus activities, to become active in the wide variety of organizations and clubs that exist on campus and communicate with their classmates anytime from anywhere where they have access to the internet. It also provides a set of utilities that assist faculty in posting course materials on the web, managing their courses and communicating with their students. Cal State University, East Bay (CSUEB) purchased a license to run the Blackboard system and maintains it on bb1.csueastbay.edu. It can only be accessed through a browser interface such as Netscape, Internet Explorer, Safari, or Firefox.
Blackboard is an integrated system that allows for faculty to communicate with their students in a wide variety of ways: email, bulletin board, posting documents, digital drop boxes, links to other websites and images, class schedules, quizzes, and exams and more. These systems allow for interlinking amongst the various parts, pulling together discussion, lecture materials, and testing, all in one package.
Blackboard is an online course management system that provides online access to your grades, course materials, exams, self-tests, and syllabuseverything you need for your course (except hardcopies of the required textbooks you purchase)! Blackboard is the online learning platform that Liberty University uses to offer online courses. Blackboard serves a variety of purposes, allowing professors to make announcements, post assignments, and interact with students. Students will use Blackboard to submit coursework, complete online tests, and interact with their classmates. Students must first set up their ASIST account in order to have access to Blackboard.
