What is Blackboard?
Blackboard is a web-based software system that supports the delivery of course materials and instruction over a local area network as well as the Internet. Using BlackBoard, a student can view course materials, take tests, communicate with the instructor and other students over the Internet using only a web browser such as Internet Explorer and possibly a few document viewers and browser plug-ins. The Blackboard educational software program combines both synchronous and asynchronous learning to allow more flexibility into the educational arena. A typical Blackboard class utilizes several different modes of learning from a virtual classroom, to a class blog, to reading books and writing papers.
Blackboard, a web-based teaching and learning software package is used for both in class and online instruction, to allow faculty to easily communicate with students in their classes. The Blackboard system is used for retrieving and submitting syllabi, class assignments, course documents, and for participating in online classroom discussions. To access Blackboard go to http://tuportal2.temple.edu. Your username and password should match your Temple email information. You can change your password once you enter the system. Please be sure to check the website 1-2 weeks before the start of classes for your assignments. From time to time we need to get information to students in the program. Blackboard is an Internet educational delivery platform, that provides students with an online learning community. Students are able to download course content (including: articles, streaming audio and video, and presentations) and interact with their professors and classmates through the discussion board (similar to Internet news groups) and the chat / virtual classroom (similar to online chat rooms). Blackboard is the Learning Management System used at Framingham State College to compliment and supplement our web-based course offerings. All Web-based and Web-enhanced courses are hosted by Blackboard on a dedicated server. Students who use Blackboard find that it is easy use and easily accessed anywhere, any time there is an internet connection.
