What is biofeedback?
Biofeedback is a non-invasive measuring method providing real-time responses from the body to determine conditions of stress and to isolate stresses to the organism, in order to influence, change or attempt to modify the stress condition in a favorable way that will increase vitality and facilitate adaptation within the organism. Biofeedback is now commonly referred to as Psychophysiology. It has become one of the most important sciences of our age. It measures brainwaves and skin resistance. Psychophysiology provides a holistic approach to recovering balance and harmony within the body through services that are uniquely beneficial. They focus on understanding the current stress status of the individual and the proper selection of the best modes of therapy for the elimination of stressors.
Biofeedback is, simply stated, a means of obtaining information from your body about your body. Bio refers to body and feedback refers to the routing of the channel (s) of information; hence, biofeedback is information supplied by the body about itself. Biofeedback is a way to heal your body and mind by learning more and more about how brain and stress systems are working. Once people are able to get feedback about their brain waves and stress responses, they can learn control and change.
Biofeedback has long been used by the medical profession as a primary means of retraining muscles of the body. As you perform a contraction, you will feel the product move up and inward. As the device moves, you have confirmation that you are doing the exercises correctly and are gaining strength. Biofeedback simply gives the patient a physical measure of a performed action.
Biofeedback is a self-help treatment that utilizes special equipment to monitor your body’s involuntary physical responses such as breathing, pulse, heart rate, temperature, muscle tension, and brain activity. Biofeedback helps you refine and perfect your relaxation exercises by learning to control the physical responses that are related to stress.
