What is Binary Phase Shift Keying (BPSK)?

0

Binary Phase Shift Keying (BPSK) is a method of encoding and/or transmitting data on top of a carrier. The carriers can be free-space transmissions or base-band signals as with Manchester encoding, or as embedded sub-carriers. The basic concept of BPSK is to provide a carrier whose phase is altered between 0 and 180 degrees to convey digital information. When transmission begins, the carrier (typically a sine wave), might follow an up, down pattern, etc. When it is then time to transmit something different, the pattern will then change to down, up, etc. The bandwidth of BPSK is exactly that of its data rate. For any links demanding high reliability it is the preferred choice, due to its immunity to noise.
