What is “bidding” on an item?
A number of raids have gone to a bidding system for merit. Bidding allows raiders to express their relative desire for a given item, which is an aspect that was missing from previous loot rules. Bids are expressed in tenths of a full merit point, typically from 0 to 1.0. The amount you bid indicates your desire for an item. If the Awesome Stick of Gnome Whacking is a 100 mana upgrade for Wizard01 but only a 10 mana upgrade for Wizard02 then Wizard01 might bid 1.0 while Wizard02 might only bid .2, for example. The item is awarded to the highest bidder, and the merit cost charged to that raider is equal to the amount bid for the item. See the FAQ item on RPM calculation for details. Ties can be decided in different ways depending on the raid leader/series running the raid, but usually involves the overall RPM of the raid. Read your raid loot rules for details.
