What is bi-wiring and bi-amplifying?
top Many of our Crystal Audio loudspeakers have binding posts that permit bi-wiring. This simply means that the crossover in these speakers have two separate ground and signal paths. When we bi-wire speakers, we use two pairs of cables to connect the speaker with the amplifier. We remove the metal link that connects the two positive and two negative binding posts together and we use two identical lengths of cable to connect each speaker with the amplifier speaker terminals. Ideally we can also use a high quality bi-wiring cable available at hi-fi stores. The benefits of bi-wiring are the result of keeping the signal to the tweeter and midrange/woofer separate. The highs have more detail as there is no intermodulation of the high frequency signal by the much more powerful bass signal. Speakers that permitbi-wiring can generally be bi-amplified. Bi-amplifying goes one step further and connects two identical amplifiers to each set of speaker terminals.
