What is betaine HCl?
Betaine HCl is a naturally occurring chemical in many plants and animals. Betaine HCl helps converts pepsinogen to pepsin and assists protein digestion. HCl promotes stomach resistance to orally ingested pathogens, hampers bacterial and fungal overgrowth in the small intestine, encourages the flow of bile and pancreatic enzymes, assists the absorption of folic acid, vitamin C, beta-carotene, iron, calcium, magnesium and zinc. The main nutrients involved in controlling homocysteine levels are folic acid, vitamin B6, and vitamin B12, however, betaine can be helpful in some individuals whose elevated homocysteine levels did not improve with these other nutrients. What is Chitosan? Chitosan, a compound with unique fat absorbing properties, is derived from chitin, found in the exoskeletons of shellfish. Chemically similar to plant fibers (cellulose), chitosan cannot be digested by the human body. Once activated in the stomach, chitosan binds to fatty acids and carries them through the diges
