What is best way to determine if a thyroid nodule is cancerous?
A thyroid nodule is a small growth or lump in the thyroid gland. Nodules are usually asymptomatic, but occasionally they can cause difficulty swallowing, a choking sensation, hoarseness, or shortness of breath. Thyroid nodules are usually non cancerous, but approximately 5% of the times are cancerous. The best test to determine if a thyroid nodule is cancerous is a fine needle aspiration biopsy.
