What is best Plasma or LCD?
Many people will say that Plasma does not have as great a lifespan, but that is based on older Plasma TVs. Currently, the Panasonic plasma TVs are rated for 100k hours, whereas most other TVs (LCD and plasma) are rated for 60-70k. Plasmas have more accurate color and picture reproduction, as well as deeper blacks. There are no dead pixels or deficient backlights to worry about. Good plasmas also have undefined contrast, usually given as 1,000,000:1, to compete with the ridiculous contrasts given by LCD manufacturers. The main drawbacks are power usage and screen glare. Power usage can be turned down if the TV is professionally calibrated (not with a calibration DVD or eyeballing it with the consumer menu settings) and glare is usually controllable. LCD TVs use less power, generally don’t glare, and usually have more vivid colors. These TVs are usually brighter and colors aren’t especially accurate without some form of calibration.
