What is beryl?
The short answer is this: Beryl, also known as beryllium aluminum cyclosilicate, is a hexagonal crystal often treasured as gemstones. In its pure form, beryl appears clear and colorless. However, with the presence of trace elements, beautiful colors emerge, which include green, blue, and yellow-gold. Green beryl, colored by traces of chromium, is better known as emerald. Blue beryl, which gets its hue from ferrous iron (Fe2+), is more commonly known as aquamarine. And when golden beryl, which is set ablaze by ferric iron (Fe3+), meets an exacting list of criteria set forth by the Yellow Mining Company, it qualifies as Yellow Emerald™ premium golden beryl.
