What is Berkeley Montessori School’s history?
Berkeley Montessori School began life in 1963, when a group of East Bay parents who wanted a Montessori education for their children started a co-op preschool with 20 students. Today BMS is one of the largest Montessori schools in the Bay Area, serving about 280 students from age three through middle school at two locations in Berkeley. We opened our new “green” Elementary/Middle School building in February 2004 at the site of the historic Santa Fe railroad station (later the Santa Fe Bar and Grill).
