Secretary of Agriculture Anne Veneman is invited to be the Conferences’ keynote speaker. Hood will share his perspective on cotton industry issues and NCC’s agenda for addressing them. Conferees also will hear of progress on the 2002 farm law’s implementation and new opportunities under its conservation title. Trade developments and their implications for U.S. cotton will be reviewed. Significant focus will be on cotton pest trends and management practices. Reports will address: 1) strategies for controlling primary and secondary insect pests and an update on regulations and availability status of older and new insect control products, 2) successful weed management techniques and 3) a review of Cotton Incorporated’s research initiatives. Another information-packed session features producers from across the Cotton Belt sharing such innovative production practices as variable rate input application.
