Obesity in children has slowly but surely gained momentum. It is not uncommon to see 2 out of 5 children being overweight. It is no question that certain measures should be taken to reduce the alarming statistic. Actually, a great deal is being done but we do not always notice it. For example, children’s books and movies have de-emphasized the presence of junk food. Some may scoff at this notion, but the inclusion (at advertiser’s requests) of promoting junk food into the pages of comic books and other pop culture mediums had a strong psychological effect on children. Simply put, it made it ok to become gluttonous towards food that had harmful components to it. Thankfully, greater social consciousness is on the minds of those in the media.
