What is being done to protect the community during the removal of the PCBs?
The selected contractor is required to remove the material in a manner that is fully protective of human health and the environment. This will include dust control, air monitoring, storm water control and monitoring, and site security. The contractor will be putting a structure over the vaults that will collect and contain dust while the sediment, soil and debris is being removed and loaded in trucks headed to the destruction facility. This structure will also prevent storm water from contacting the PCB waste and wash water from leaving the site.
