What is being done to fight racism?
• A major priority of Multiculturalism and Citizenship Canada is to eliminate racism. • The department recognizes that other levels of government and key groups, such as the media, police, educators, social service providers, employers and labour groups, as well as individuals and communities, must be involved in fighting racism. • A large part of the multiculturalism budget is devoted to working with these players to eliminate racial discrimination in Canada. In 1991, Parlaiment passed legislation setting up the Canadian Race Relations Foundation with $24 million. It will be a resource for community organizations, business, labour, and public institutions across the country: the Foundation will develop, share and apply knowledge and expertise for eliminating racial discrimination.
