Beet juice is an organic based liquid derived from de-sugared beets. It is brownish in color, water soluable and has a slight sweet odor. It is less corrosive and less harmful to the environment than calcium chloride. Beet juice will not leave any permanent discoloration or stains on concrete or asphalt, and it will not harm vehicles, other metal structures, humans or pets. It washes off easily. It is anticipated beet juice will: • Reduce the use of salt (fewer applications) • Reduce corrosion on equipment and bridges • Reduce impact on the environment. Overland Park has been testing the use of beet juice since 2008. The Missouri Department of Transportation also uses it statewide. For more information, call 913-895-6040.
