What is batik, is it like tye dye?
It is totally different than tye dye which bleeds. Batik is made using a wax and dye process. The fabric is stamped with wax in the shape of the pattern and where the wax is the dye cannot penetrate. Later the wax is boiled off and you then see the design. That is why it is pre-shrunk, because to get the wax off the fabric has to be boiled many times. Batik is a craft which has been perfected in Bali. All the fabric has been made by hand.
