Band camp is held on campus one week before classes begin. The leadership of the band spends the first day with just the freshmen in order to facilitate greater learning for new members. For the remaining five days faculty, T.A.’s, section leaders, and squad leaders help members work on their marching, musical, and unity skills. The Band’s unique “Drive-It” style of marching is taught and reviewed, and the Band’s traditional sound is perfected by Dr. Bartner and fellow faculty. Most meals for Band Camp are provided. Students who have TrojanHousing and are unable to move in early will stay in a hotel for a nominal fee (same rate as the TrojanHousing early move-in rate). You will have a break on the morning of Move-in Day so that you may check into your University Housing. Band camp is traditionally held the week before classes start. Percussion and silks report two days early for auditions and additional practice. This summer look for letters from the band which will explain when you ne

Band Camp is the ?Spring Training? of the Marching Band. Like Spring Training, different parts of the band begin training at different times. Students who are new to the Band begin practice at the school one to two weeks before everyone else. This provides time for the Band Director and his staff to teach basic marching techniques, which is the beginning of learning the drill and provide other basic information to the new students. Returning students begin practice at the school the week before band camp. The first portion of the drill will be assigned, marching techniques will be reviewed, and the band will begin the process of becoming a cohesive marching unit. The next week, all members of the marching band travel offsite to Band Camp. This allows the Director to focus the attention of the Band soley on learning the Marching Program. It also allows the students to become a more cohesive unit as each student becomes familiar with the other students in their section and the entire ban

Band camp is a 4-5 day intensive workshop, where new and returning students begin training for the upcoming fall competitive season. Held in August, students learn and review basics in music and marching, and have fun activities such as swimming, theme dress-up days and a poster contest. Our band camp is usually held in and around our own band room, at SCHS. All students of the Cardinal Regiment are requested to participate. The last day includes a parent meeting and a performance by the students.

Band Camp usually is scheduled at the end of August. The Band Camp schedule will be mailed to you after you sign up to the Band program. We all have to do Band Camp and it is mandatory. The field-show must be learned prior to the start of school so we can perform at the early Football games. Band Camp is not all work. We do have fun.

Band Camp is held for two weeks prior to the start of the school year. Its purpose is to teach marching skills to the students, and to learn and prepare the field show for the fall marching season. It is also a time that band members get to know one another and become a team of musicians. Rehearsals are 8 a.m. 3 p.m., students should arrive early in order to be prepared to begin on time.
