What is bad cholesterol?
Low-density lipoproteins (LDL cholesterol) are used to make cell membranes and hormones. When you have too much LDL cholesterol, it can build up in your arteries. When bad cholesterol builds up in the lining of your arteries, along with other substances, it forms a plaque that narrows the arteries and limits blood flow. This plaque can eventually block the flow of blood to your heart, brain, and other vital organs.
