What is AVC?
AVC is the short form of MPEG-4 AVC, the new open standard jointly developed by ITU and ISO/MPEG. This standard utilizes the principles of MPEG-2 but takes advantage of 10 years of technological enhancement. Moore’s law has ensured that memory and processing technology continues to get faster and less expensive, allowing more processing power to be deployed at both the encoder and the decoder. The combined effect is that technological enhancements are also deployable and cost-effective for consumer receivers.
