Generically known as rosiglitazone, Avandia is a tablet medication prescribed to treat type-2 diabetes, a condition in which the body’s resistance to insulin can endanger its blood sugar levels. Avandia is not appropriate for the treatment of type-1 diabetes, a condition in which the pancreas produces little or no insulin. Avandia is produced by GlaxoSmithKline and should typically be taken twice daily, in the morning and the evening. Avandia can be taken with or without food.
