What is Automated System Recovery in Windows 2003?
Automated System Recovery (ASR) is a new feature in Windows 2003. It allows for the quick recovery of the operating system in the event of catastrophic failure. ASR requires that you made a backup using the ASR option in NTBackup (Windows 2003 Native Backup). This is a separate option, which performs a backup of the system and boot partitions, then creates a floppy disk with the partitioning scheme. Caution: The ASR only functions with the operating system and does not guarantee the recovery of data in any way. Running ASR for operating system recovery: When booting to the Windows 2003 operating system CD, the message “Press F2 to run Automated System Recovery (ASR)” appears. Pressing F2 immediately prompts you to insert the Windows Automated System Recovery disk and then press any key.
