What is Autologous Stem Cell Transplant?

0

Unlike embryonic stem cells derived from a fetus or stem cells derived from animals, autologous stem cells are derived from your own blood or fat tissue (adipose). Dormant stem cells are harvested from 100cc of a patient’s fat and peripheral blood through liposuction. These stem cells are incubated in stimulating growth factors, isolated and infused back into the patient intravenously. The whole procedure takes up to 4 hours in the operating room of the hospital under local anesthesia. It takes about an hour to harvest, 3 hours to incubate and stimulate the stem cells and infuse them back to the patient.
