What is auto-sampling, and how is the sample rate figured?

Auto-sampling refers to the unique way the sample rate is handled for data logging in the Watts up? PRO. Some data loggers require the user to set or program in the desired sampling interval. This is often confusing and cumbersome. Instead, Watts up? PRO automatically provides the user with the highest resolution of data possible, regardless of how long they have been logging. In addition, nothing is required to be setup or programmed in advance. Watts up? PRO always starts logging at a one second interval. When the data is filled, every other record is deleted, and the meter starts logging again at two second intervals. When the data fills up again, every other record is again deleted, and the meter starts logging again at four second intervals. This doubling of the sample rate continues indefinitely. So the meter could record for a years time, and the sample rate would be approximately every eight hours. The chart below shows an example. Time logged Sample rate 0 – 17 minutes 1 secon
