What is ATP? Why is ATP required for muscle contraction?

0

ATP is adenosine tri-phosphate, it is the main energy currency within living organisms. Muscle can’t utilize glucose directly, it requires the sugar to be break down to the form of ATP for energy consumption. Muscle is composed of myosin and actin. The myosin fiber needs to bind to one ATP molecule, and via breaking it down to Phosphate and ADP, the fiber perform a stroke motion, when cause the contraction. Hope that helps!
