What is Atmos Energys error rate for these wireless meter-reading devices?
Atmos Energy is absolutely committed to accurate billing and the error rate is projected to be extremely low. Our wireless meter reading devices have been tested and approved by one of the industries leading independent authorities. When a wireless device is installed a customers meter, the reading is taken manually for at least one month to verify accuracy. As part of our ongoing verification, a sampling of meters is read manually each month to compare their readings with the wireless readings. Any readings that do not match are investigated, and corrective actions are taken. Although we do not have an error rate yet for the wireless meter reading devices that have been installed on our system, the industry standard for errors is one-half of one percent (0.5%) The small number of errors discovered to date have been traced to programming errors during installation. Thanks to accountability and good record keeping, Atmos Energy can trace most errors to the origin.
