What is asphaltic concrete paving (ACP)?

0

Asphaltic concrete paving (ACP, paving, hot-mix paving) is the placement of a high quality hot mixture of asphalt cement and well aggregate (crushed gravel). This mixture is produced in an off site plant and trucked to the project where it is placed by a paving machine and then thoroughly compacted. The subgrade ultimately carries all traffic loads, therefore the structural function of the pavement is to support and spread that load to the subgrade without exceeding the strength of the subgrade, or the internal strength of the pavement.
