I would agree that 2001 was his best, but Rama is very good, too. I have have read many, perhaps most, of Arthur C. Clarke’s books and my clear favorite is “Rendezvous with Rama.” It is from the “science puzzle” sub-genre of Sci-fi. You can probably find it cheap in your local used-book store.
