What is/are the disadvantage(s) of paralleling two or more linear regulators?
There are many disadvantages to paralleling multiple linear regulators: – Higher cost because of duplication of components – More board space required – Terrible load regulation because of the required series resistance – Stability problems – Potential to blow up under short-circuit as the two regulators short circuit control loops may try to buck each other. To avoid these disadvantages, it is much better to use a higher current device or use an external pass device to increase load current capability.
