What is Architectural similarities Between black sea and north aegean settlements ?
Greek colonisation in the north and east (the aegean and the black sea in particular) was a long process with significant impact on the life, development and form of those regions. Greeks and locals were forced, peacefully or not, into a modus vivendi that would allow them ultimately to co-exist in the same geographical region, though not necessarily in the same settlement. Influences of the greeks on the locals and vice versa were unavoidable and understandable in various aspects and levels. Architecture is one of the fields in which such influences can be traced The focus of this paper is to explore similarities in the type of architectural structures found in settlements with greek population located in both the north aegean and the black sea. Of particular interest is a type of semi-subterranean structures that were found in residential areas in both regions.
