What is archaeological studies?

Archaeology is the study of mankind through the material culture they have left behind. By material culture I just mean the stuff they leave. So you hear about archaeologists excavating a prehistoric site – they have found the layers deep within the soil where the remains of prehistoric man have been preserved, but it can also be more modern too, you can look at and record factories from the Industrial age or even later to find out more than the historical record tells you about the people at that time. So archaeological studies are the process by which you learn about the methods of studying mankind through material culture.
