I’m close to your age and also swing dance. I find that when the band is going conversation isn’t really necessary. A frequent smile and some eye contact is enough to let the person know you’re enjoying yourself, and focusing on the physical contact and the music… it’s really just a neat bond you can have with another human being that doesn’t require conversation. Though I’ve also done dancing in lessons or where there wasn’t music (or it was quiet music) and we were switching partners and stuff… and it’s nice to have a bit of conversation during that. Try normal small talk stuff like where do they go to school or what do they do for a living or what else do they like to do besides dancing or how often do they dance or what sort of music do they like.
