What is Annual Yearly Progress (AYP)?

0

Annual yearly progress is a measurement used to determine if schools are making progress toward increasing the percentage of Level 3 and 4 students with the ultimate goal of achieving a performance index of 200 by 2014. In order to achieve AYP, schools must: 1. administer the English language arts and math assessment to 95% of all students enrolled the day of the test; and 2. ensure that each of the required subgroups (ethnicity, special education, English language learners) must make progress toward achieving the goal established by the New York State Education Department in ELA and math. In addition to AYP in math and ELA, New York State schools must make AYP in elementary science, intermediate science, and/or high school graduation rates beginning in the 2003-2004 school year.
