What is annealed glass?
“Annealed” refers to glass that has been produced through a controlled cooling process designed to reduce residual stress to a commercially acceptable level. Float glass is annealed. Annealed glass can be cut to different sizes and further fabricated by drilling holes or notches, bending, heat-treating, coating, laminating, or insulating. Annealed glass often provides the surface strength required for wind load and thermal stress resistance in architectural glazing applications. Applications with large glass sizes, high wind loads, and thermal stresses often require annealed glass to be heat treated in order to withstand stresses associated with the end use. Standard annealed glass thicknesses used in architectural applications will not meet safety glazing requirements.
