What is angioplasty?
Angioplasty is a procedure done if there is a blockage in the coronary arteries. A catheter with a small balloon on the end is threaded through the artery from the groin area until it reaches the heart and the blocked artery. Once the blocked artery is reached, the balloon is inflated to open the blocked artery. This procedure, in some cases, can alleviate the need for bypass surgery.
