What is anecdotal evidence and why wont it persuade an atheist?
• Despite the hodgepodge of beliefs that constitute atheism, most atheists tend to be skeptics or realists, meaning that they require a degree of objective proof for any belief. Anecdotal evidence would be evidence that cannot be verified by an independent 3rd party, or deriving a conclusion that does not properly follow the evidence. An example of the former would be claiming that God has talked to you. While you may feel this, it cannot be measured or verified objectively. An example of the latter would be claiming that the Grand Canyon was formed in Noah’s flood, despite the overwhelming evidence that there never was a global flood and a flood could not shape the Grand Canyon if it were to occur. Evolution isn’t true! Homeopathy is real! Global warming is a lie! Here is proof! • No prominent scientist actually agrees with any of these statements.
