What is and has been the correct name for CAC?
The Combined Arms Center was created with that name on 1 July 1973. It retained this name until 1 October 1990 when it was renamed the Combined Arms Command following a major reorganization. CAC took command of the Combined Arms Combat Development Activity (CACADA) and the Combined Arms Training Activity (CATA) both of which had previously been semi-independent activities. These and other changes were part of the then CAC Commander LTG Wishart’s vision “CAC 2000”. CAC was re-designated the Combined Arms Center on 22 July 1994 following a TRADOC “business process re-engineering” by GEN Franks, then TRADOC Commander. The move striped CAC of its role as an integrating center and separated training and combat developments. CAC-T became DCST-West, CAC-CD was dissolved altogether, the Battle Lab worked for TRADOC and many positions were removed to Fort Monroe.
