What is Ancient Greek Language and Literature?
The study of ancient Greek language and literature is a typical component of degree programs in the classical studies. Students enrolled in these programs learn the history of Greek culture, as well as the development of the language, writing and traditions over centuries. Undergraduate degrees are commonly available with a major in classics. Earning a Bachelor of Arts in Classics is also possible with a concentration in Greek studies. The curriculum for these programs includes courses intensive in the language as well as ancient Greek history, philosophy, Greek art, mythology and archaeology. Post-baccalaureate certificates in classics are offered for those students without a strong background in the Greek or Latin languages, which would keep them out of most graduate-level programs.
