What is an Yttrium Embolisation?
This procedure is the same as explained above, but instead of adding a chemotherapy drug, a radioactive form of Octreotide is added. This is called Yttrium. This may be used if we know you have octreotide positive tumour. The doctor can tell by the results of the octreotide scan you will have had in the Nuclear Medicine Department. This procedure can also be done without adding the particles and is then called transarterial yttrium therapy. Who will do this procedure? The procedure will be done by someone known as an interventional radiologist, and they are specialists in this type of therapy. If you are having radioactive treatment added then one of the consultants from the Nuclear Medicine Department will also be present. Are there any risks associated with this procedure?
