A modification chip, or a mod chip as it is more commonly known as a device used to play imported, backed up, or home brew games. Mod chips came to be simply because gamers were sick and tired of the poor selection of games that they could play on the Xbox 360, while in Japan they had a far greater selection of games that they could play. The problem is that games that originated in Japan could not be played on US or European Xbox. So with the advent of the mod chip it opened a new world for gamers everywhere.
