What is an RPI MUD?
RPI stands for ‘Role-Play Intensive’, and so an RPI MUD is a mutli-user domain which is operated in a role-play intensive atmosphere. The opposite of RPI is often considered to be hack and slash, a method of game play which has the player concentrating on gaining levels and killing monsters. In an RPI a player takes on a character, and plays that character as a real person, complete with goals, fears, personality and emotion. In an RPI the goal is not so much to win, as it is to play well. Indeed, taking that axiom to heart will earn you favor in the eyes of the dh staffmembers. A well played death, with actions true to one’s character, is not ‘losing the game’. Dark Horizon’s dedication to quality RPI is its main, driving force. To reward players who play well, RP points are given out by staffmembers. The more RP points you have, the more options are open to you when creating new characters.
