REM stands for Retail Electric Marketer (or Retail Energy Marketer). REMs like Accent Energy are independent companies that supply electricity to residences and/or businesses, and work hand-in-hand with public utility companies. REMs sell the electricity (supply it) and the utilities deliver it to the end-customer and provide service. The terms ESCO (Energy Service Company) and REP (Retail Energy Provider) are synonymous with REM.
