What is an ophthalmoscope and what is used for?
The ophthalmoscope allows you to view the back of the eye, commonly called the fundus. This is where nerves and blood vessels converge, and it is the only place these structures can be seen without surgery. A good view of the fundus not only helps you assess the health of the patient’s eye, but it will also tell you a lot about his or her overall health. An ophthalmoscope can detect early signs of diabetes, hypertension, and some neurological problems.
