What is an open tray impression technique?
An “open” tray impression, sometimes called a “direct” impression, uses an impression post with a longer retaining screw. This retaining screw is usually 5mm or taller than the impression post body. The post is seated and tightened to the implant. The tray used for the impression has a “window” or hole cut out so the head of the retaining screw extends above the tray. Before the impression can be removed the retaining screw must be loosened, allowing the impression tray to be removed and retaining the impression post in the impression. The implant body analog is attached and tightened to the impression post with the same long retaining screw. The impression is then ready to be poured with dental stone. The Spline impression post’s unique design allows for its use in both the “closed” and “open” tray impression taking techniques. The standard Spline impression post is sold with a short retaining screw used for the “closed” tray technique. An optional long retaining screw (Cat. No. 1833)
