What is an official transcript?
Please locate the instructions specific to you below. • Schools located inside the United States or Canada: In order to be considered official, transcripts must be sent directly to the Graduate School by the registrar of the institution involved. • Transcripts that come from a third party or have been issued to the student and forwarded to the Graduate School are not considered official. • Notarized transcripts are not official. • Schools located outside the United States or Canada: Transcripts must be issued by the official at the institution who is responsible for official student records. • Transcripts must be received by the Graduate School in sealed envelopes from the school attended. • A certified English translation must accompany the academic credentials if they are not written in English. • Notarized transcripts are not official. • Official transcripts must be received from all institutions.
An official transcript is a transcript that arrives in a sealed envelope directly from a high school or college. This envelope can be hand-carried to Coastal by the student or sent directly to Coastal by the high school or previously attended college; however, once the envelope has been opened, the transcript is no longer official, and you will have to request another one. Transcripts that are stamped “issued to student” are not considered official transcripts.
An official transcript is issued from the Office of the Registrar, contains an official seal or signature of the registrar and a watermark, and is sent to PTCAS directly from the Registrar in a sealed envelope. Transcripts that are issued directly to students and then forwarded to PTCAS are not acceptable. PTCAS cannot accept faxed or photocopied transcripts. All transcripts will be inspected by PTCAS staff to confirm validity before being marked as received in your application and used to verify your Coursework section. To make sure your official transcript is handled properly by PTCAS, you should print the PTCAS Transcript Request Form by clicking the orange button next to the school name in your Colleges and Universities Attended page (you must enter your institution information before you will be able to print a Transcript Request Form).
