What is an Occupational Health & Safety Professional?
Close to 3,000 workers die and hundreds of thousands get hurt or sick in Australia each year, as a result of occupational injury or disease. An Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) professional works to promote and maintain the highest level of physical, mental and social well being of workers in all occupations. This involves identifying hazards in the workplace, evaluating the risks to the health and safety of employees and devising strategies for hazard control, to minimise or eliminate the risks. The aim is to try to reduce the rates of accidents and work related illness to zero.
