What is an OC-48?
An OC-48 is a type of internet connection. It stands for OpticalCarrier Level 48 which equates to 2.488 Gbps of transfer. This base rate is multiplied for use by other OC-n standards. For example, an OC-3 connection is 3 times the rate of OC-1. At 2.488 Gbps, OC-48 surpasses Gigabit ethernet and are used as backbones at my ISPs and hosting providers.
