What is an observer and what can they do?
An observer is an EMT student who has passed their first test of the EMT course. After they have passed their first test they may ride in the ambulance. Each observer will be assigned to a duty crew and a mentor. They will also be given a vest that states that they are an observer. This vest must be worn at all times on an EMS call! The mentor will make sure that the observer learns necessary skills. As the observer goes on calls on the ambulance, they are encouraged to do paperwork, gather and ready equipment for use and do CPR. They may not do any patient care at any time.
