What is an MTI Photo screener?
MTI Photo screening uses a specialized Polaroid type camera that takes instant photos of infant and toddlers eyes. When read by a trained and qualified person, the photos can screen for major eye disorders including near and far sightedness, astigmatism, anisometropia (unequal prescription), cataracts and strabismus (turned eye). Research also shows that approximately one out of every 20 children between the ages of six months and five years has a serious eye disorder. Most children in this age group either never have their vision checked or theyre tested with a method that often fails to detect some serious eye problems. By the time children enter school and do have their eyes tested it may be harder and costlier to provide effective treatment. Mio Lions have a camera and have been very active in screening youngsters in District 11-E2. For more information contact: Mio Lions President, Bernie Kann at 989.848.
