What is an IUD (Intrauterine Device)?
It is a small plastic or metal (copper) device usually shaped like a T that is inserted into the uterus. This procedure takes just a couple of minutes when performed by professionals well versed with the technique. It works by afecting the motility of the sperms and the transport of the ovum(female egg) or by stopping an egg settling in the womb. It can stay in place for five years. Some IUDs can stay in place for ten years.
